What trends do you wish would die out

I have talked about my Lolita dislikes before: specifically about the trends I'd and the styles I'd never wear. As with any fashion, there are always trends or fads which are so far from our tastes that we'd never wear them, but I think a sensible person should be clear about differentiating between subjective hates and less subjective trends which one thinks should disappear off the face of the planet. And it's the latter that I'll focus on here, although some things may repeat themselves.

To Wig or not to Wig

It's no secret that wigs are one of the most popular Lolita accessories. From those who can't style their hair into the elegant soft curls to those who simply want a hair colour that will better match their coord, wigs have already helped out many, whatever the reason. Even more so now when good ones have become cheaper and thus easier to obtain.

And now I'm considering joining that club of Lolitas Who Don Wigs.

3 styles I could never wear

Some time ago, when writing about Lolita trends I couldn’t get into, I said that I’d write about styles I couldn’t wear as well. Today is that day, so without further ado, here are the 3 Lolita styles that you won't see me wearing.

Lolita Blog Carnival: What is your number one goal item right now?

Yes, I am finally oficially a part of Lolita Blog Carnival, and I can't even begin to express how happy I am about that. It feels like an accomplishment, as well as a challenge to participate as often as I can. This week they ask about my number one goal item right now – and while this should be a fairly straightforward question, I feel like it's not and requires a more elaborate answer.

A coord inspired by a period in history

This was actually meant to be another one of the Lolita Blog Carnival posts, however, I think I misread the title (the original one said to "Pick a historical era and design a dress based on it (30)"), but by the time I realised that I already had the entire post done. Oops! :P Still, it's a nice little challenge, so here it is.

As a fashion Lolita brilliantly lends itself to historical inspirations – I mean, it’s already heavily inspired by the Rococco and Victorian eras! And I believe that with just a little imagination you can make up a perfectly Lolita coord paying an homage to whatever period in history you want. Predominantly European history, but I’m sure there are creative people out there who could whip out something very much Mughal India or Tang China.

Unfortunately, I’m not one of those people (though I’d very much love to see someone do this challenge with a non-European country’s history in mind!), by the virtue of being European I find it easier to think within that framework. And for this challenge I decided to create a coordinate inspired by Italian Renaissance, specifically the middle renaissance of around 1490s-1510s – or, if you prefer, Juliet from the 1968 Romeo and Juliet film adaptation.

DIY Cherry Jewellery

When I started thinking more about how to coordinate my Lolita dresses and how to get the most wear out of them, I had a brilliant idea for the first dress that I ever bought, which is to make it into a red and white cherry themed outfit. Over time I managed to get almost all of the actual clothing pieces, but I'm still lacking some accessories for it. After looking around on eBay, Etsy, AliExpress and whatever else I could think of, I was utterly disappointed in the results: things I found were either too small, not within my budget or totally not the style/look that I was after. This, as well as the DIY gift ideas I wrote about some time ago now, inspired me to take matters into my own hands and make some of those pieces mysef, which I did over the last weekend.

Here you have the jewellery that I made in the form of a bracelet and a pair of earrings. I hope to finish up a cardigan sometime soon, as well as do some hair bows, both of which I'll write about here once I've done it. For now though, here's how to make your own fruity accessories!

Lolidrobe Reassessment Post

All the way back in December now I have made some Lolitagoals for the New Year (not so new anymore). Amongst the six that I made two related to making my wardrobe more versatile and weather appropriate, so that I could wear Lolita more often (which is goal number one, actually), including a provision that I regularly assess my wardrobe to ensure that I'm not losing track of that. So I thought that it’d be a good idea to share that assessment over here.

Whilst it’s not ideal, as the wardrobe post from the beginning of the year gradually becomes a bit outdated with me getting a lot of new pieces just in January, I will use it as a point of reference as for now it still visualises my main pieces pretty well.
